15 Hand Tool Safety Tips

Below is a list of standard safety tips people using Hand Tools should follow so that they stay safe!
 
 
  1. Your eyes are important. Wear safety glasses or safety goggles, always.
  2. If you don’t know how to use a tool ask before you make a mistake.
  3. Dull cutting tools create injuries - keep them sharpened.
  4. Sharp or pointed tools create injuries so take care when using them.
  5. Carry cutting tools, knives and pointed tools with the sharp ends down.
  6. If it doesn’t fit do not force it. Use appropriate tools for the job.
  7. Handles are for holding. Do not use tools with broken or missing handles.
  8. Hammers are for hammering.If you use other tools like files to hammer they could shatter.
  9. Wear appropriate clothing when working with open flames or torches or in severe weather conditions.
  10. If your hands are greasy wash them. Oily tools are an accident waiting to happen.
  11. Tool belts and tool boxes are for tools, not your pockets.
  12. A screwdriver is not a chisel.
  13. If you are using sharp tools with edges such as chisels cut away from your body.
  14. If your tools are broken or aren’t working correctly replace them ASAP.
  15. Always clean and put your tools away after use for safety and as a courtesy to others.
